Sterling silver heart pendant with coin pearl. A coin pearl is a real fresh water pearl grown in a mussel mostly in rivers in Japan. The pearl becomes coin shaped because the pearl farmers “seed” the mussel with a round flat disc instead of a grain of sand that would normally produce a round pearl. It takes two to seven years to grow, each mussel producing around 2 dozen coin pearls.
